I want to start this one with just a little back ground of where I find myself in life right now. Like so many of you, I hate this one question that people generally like to ask any one new they meet. What do you do? Well once at the dentist I was asked that question, and I immediately responded, I am a stay at home mom. Then I realized, wait a minute, I have not been that in over 4 years. So I looked at the hygienist and said, well I guess I cannot say that anymore, as my kids are all grown up and living their own lives, and followed that up by I am a house wife.
For the last year I have been trying to figure out what is my next step. A lot of people have responded to this, by saying oh how exciting. You can do anything you like. Well yes, that is also a problem. Especially if you feel stuck and have no idea where to next.
For the last few weeks, I keep on thinking about the potter, so I decided to dig deeper into the verses.
Isaiah 29:16
“You turn things upside down, as if the potter thought to be like the clay. Shall what is formed say to him who formed it, he did not make me? Can the pot say to the potter he knows nothing?”
Isaiah was addressing an issue with the Israelites about the fact that they believed God was a passive God, a God who did not want to take an active part in their lives. Thus they thought they could carve out their own destines - in turn saying they were their own masters. And God would be okay with anything they choose to do.
Jeremiah 18:6
“O house of Israel, can I not do to you as this potter does? Declares the LORD. Like clay in the hands of the potter, so are you in my hand, O house of Israel.”
You see, the clay can willingly yield to the potter hands to be shaped the way the potter envisions the pot to be, for a plan and a purpose. Or the clay can resist, and in turn the potter break down the clay and start over.
Then God spoke to my heart by saying, you can decide whether you want a passive God or an active God in your life. You can try and find your own destiny, and hope that what you have chosen is going to work out for you. OR on a daily basis you can spend time with Me, dream with Me, and allow Me to mold you into the person I created you to be. If you yield willingly, the process will be so much less painful. God also said to me, that He can heal all the broken parts, the parts He did not include in designing me.
Psalm 139:14
“I will praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Marvelous are. Your works, and I know this very well.”
The word Wonderfully stood out here for me. In Jewish the word is palah, which means: to be separated or distinct. In a world where everybody wants to be unique. God said to me all I ever wanted for you is to be uniquely you. Be who I created you to be.
Isaiah 44:1-2
“But listen, O Jacob, my servant, Israel whom I have chosen. This is what the LORD says - He who made you, who formed you in the womb, and who will help you: do not be afraid, O Jacob, my servant, Jerhurn, whom I have chosen.”
God also said to me, I have chosen you before you were conceived. I have created you exactly the way you are. Take your quiet time and grow in Me. When I open the door for you, you will be ready to step through it and if you stay in communication with Me it will be a success. Trust in Me, trust that I know the plans I have for you.
You have the luxury right now that so many people crave, a quiet life, allow me to teach you.
Find the beauty in this phase of your life.
