Unbecoming to become you.

Updated: Jul 18, 2025

This picture represents a woman unbecoming, like a knitted object coming undone to start over to reveal the real her, the beautiful person God created her to be.

With God it isn’t about becoming something important or successful the way the world sees success.  It is about unbecoming everything that is not you, so that you can become who God created you to be.

As we grow up, and go through life, we tend to take on labels that the world placed on us and we become that label after a while.

Jeremiah 18:6

“He said, “can I not do wity you, Israel, as this potter does?”  Declares the Lord.  “Like clay in the hand of the potter, so are you in my hand, Israel.”

As this potter does is Yatsar in hebrew which means to form, fashion, create and to mold into a form.

Yatsar is creating or shaping something with intention and purpose.  It conveys the idea of a potter shaping clay, highlighting the skill and care involved in the creative process.  This term is frequently used to describe God’s creative work.

When the potter creates and designs a piece of pottery, the potter has a plan and purpose for that piece the potter is creating.  Yes a bowl can also hold coffee, and I can drink my coffee out of a bowl instead of a mug.  But the mug will be more comfortable to use to drink my coffee as it has a handle for me to hold, I will most probably spill less as well.

That is what it means to unbecome.  Unbecome the person you think you should be and rather become who God created you to be.  God created you for a plan and a purpose.  He gave you gift and abilities uniquely to you.

Ephesians 2:10

“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”

Handiwork is Poiéma in Greek means workmanship, creation and to form or fashion.  Poiéma refers to something that has been made or created, emphasizing the craftsmanship involved in its creation – especially the work of God, in creation as well as His work in believers.  It conveys the idea of intentional purposeful creation.

Created is Ktizó in Greek means to create, form, shape, make always by God.  Ktizó describe the divine act of creating by God, God’s authority and intentionality behind His creation.

Prepared in advance is proetoimazó in Greek means to prepare beforehand, and to make ready in advance.  It implies deliberate and intentional action taken before a particular event or purpose.  This preparation is often seen as Part of God’s sovereign plan and purpose, highlighting His foreknowledge and providence.  God is actively involved in the unfolding of His purpose in us.

You see, we were carefully planned out, our time and place of birth determined by God, even where we live is all carefully planned out by God.  He knows where we can grow, in Him and do the work he has intended for us to do.

How do we follow the plan God has for us?  God brought Enoch to mind, Enoch walked with God, and because of that walk, God was so pleased with him that Enoch did not experienced death.

Genesis 5:24

“Enoch walked faithfully with God; then he was no more, because God took him away.”

Walked is Halak in Hebrews which means to walk.  Symbolizes one’s journey through life and one’s relationship with God, reflecting obedience, faithfulness and a righteous lifestyle.

To go on a journey with God, he leads both physically and spiritually.  To walk the journey God planned for you means to be you, truly you and to be successful the way God intended for you to be.

My relationship with God needs to be intimate and I need to actively listen to Him; and then follow where He leads me.

So here it to spend time with God to unbecoming to become a better version of me.
